Kuwait plans to raise petrol prices for expatriates, aligning them with global market rates, while shielding its citizens from the increase, as the government seeks to balance the scales in a nation where foreign residents outnumber locals two to one, according to Kuwaiti Newspaper Al Qabas.
A government source confirmed to Al Qabas that this change will solely impact expatriates, leaving Kuwaiti citizens unaffected. Financial support will be available to citizens to mitigate additional fuel costs.
The source remarked to Al Qabas, ‘It makes little sense for expatriates and visitors, who outnumber citizens two to one, to continue benefiting from such low fuel prices.’
According to Al Qabas, the exact details of the price increase, including its percentage, are still under review and will be presented to the Economic Affairs Committee for approval soon.
