Khartoum witnessed intense air strikes and shelling on Thursday as the Sudanese army targeted paramilitary positions across the capital. Eyewitnesses and military sources confirmed the clashes, marking the army’s first significant offensive in months. The fighting, which began at dawn, aims to reclaim parts of the city held by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). A military source, speaking anonymously, described the ongoing battles as "fierce" as army troops advanced, crossing three vital Nile bridges previously separating RSF-controlled areas from army positions.
Since April 2023, the Sudanese army, led by General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, has struggled to regain control of Khartoum from the RSF, commanded by Mohamed Hamdan Daglo, in a brutal conflict that has devastated the nation.
