Businessman donates BD169700 towards Chennai flood relief

An estimated three million people have been affected by one of the worst natural disasters to ever hit Tamil Nadu.

Record-breaking rainfall and the overflowing of several lakes have left thousands homeless and without food or electricity. The region, however, remains undaunted, with various groups and individuals quickly mobilising money to aid the flood victims by providing shelter and basic necessities, as well as helping stranded families get back together.

Joyalukkas Group, that has outlets in Bahrain too, has been one of the first organisations on ground supporting relief efforts.

“Chennai is very close to my heart, people here have supported us greatly through the years,” says  Joy Alukkas, Chairman & MD Joyalukkas Group.

“It is our turn to stand with them and get them through this very difficult time. The Joyalukkas Foundation is stepping up its relief efforts, beginning with this humble cash donation to the Chief Minister’s relief fund to provide relief to the victims as soon as possible. Our thoughts and prayers are with the
affected families.”

Joy Alukkas personally offered his support to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa on Tuesday, along with a cheque for INR 30 million (BD169705.8550). Aid relief activities continue at the present time.

Joyalukkas Group has pledged to the Chief Minister of their continuous support not only just in monetary terms but also in any other form required. Joyalukkas Group wants Chennai to stand back on its feet at the earliest.
