Arab-Islamic Leaders Convene in Riyadh for Follow-Up Summit on Gaza and Lebanon Conflicts

Arab-Islamic leaders from across the region and beyond have gathered in Riyadh ahead of a crucial Saudi Arabia-sponsored summit to discuss Israel's ongoing wars in Gaza and Lebanon. This follow-up meeting, convened by the Kingdom, seeks to address the escalating violence, humanitarian crises, and explore diplomatic measures for conflict resolution in the region.
Key figures who arrived in Riyadh on Monday include Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al-Nahyan, UAE Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister, and Chairman of the Presidential Court; Shavkat Mirziyoyev, President of Uzbekistan; Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, President of Sudan’s Transitional Sovereign Council; Bashar Assad, President of Syria; Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, Prime Minister of Iraq; Sheikh Khalid bin Abdulla Al-Khalifa, Deputy Prime Minister of Bahrain; and Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of Egypt.
Other prominent attendees include King Abdullah II of Jordan, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Qatar’s ruler Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, Kuwait’s Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, Iran’s First Vice President Mohammad Reza Aref, and Omani Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr bin Hamad bin Hamood Albusaidi. Niger’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Bakary Yaou Sangare, also arrived to participate in the high-stakes summit.
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas arrived a day earlier on Sunday, alongside Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati, Algerian Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf, and Guinea’s Foreign Minister Morissanda Kouyate. Additional leaders who arrived for the summit include President Bassirou Diomaye Faye of Senegal, Chad’s President Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno, President Emomali Rahmon of Tajikistan, Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and Uganda’s Third Deputy Prime Minister Lukia Isanga Nakadama.
Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Ghazouani reached Riyadh on Sunday after performing Umrah and offering prayers at the Prophet’s Mosque in Madinah on Saturday.
The summit, which will focus on the impact of the wars in Gaza and Lebanon, is expected to generate significant international interest, as leaders collaborate to find solutions for regional peace and stability amid the deepening crisis. With tensions continuing to rise, the discussions will also include humanitarian efforts to alleviate the suffering of civilians caught in the conflict.
As the world watches, the Riyadh summit represents a critical opportunity for Arab and Islamic leaders to unite in their efforts to bring an end to the violence and work towards lasting peace in the region.
