The UK government has confirmed an outbreak of the H5N1 bird flu virus at a commercial poultry farm in St. Ives, Cornwall. The Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (DEFRA) announced on Sunday that all infected poultry in the area will be humanely culled to prevent further spread.

This marks England's first case of H5N1 in kept birds this season, following recent detections of the virus in wild birds across the southwest of England and continental Europe.

The H5N1 strain has also raised concerns internationally. In the United States, the virus has been found among wild birds, poultry, and even livestock such as cows, as reported by the Associated Press. Meanwhile, Canadian health officials recently confirmed a case of bird flu in a British Columbia teenager, linking it to a poultry outbreak in the region.

Authorities continue to monitor and contain the spread of the virus as it poses significant risks to both animal and public health.
