Security Breach at Windsor Castle, UK : Thieves Steal Vehicles from Royal Grounds
Windsor Castle, the residence of King Charles located west of London, was the site of a significant security breach on October 13, when thieves managed to steal two vehicles from the royal grounds, Thames Valley Police confirmed on Monday.
The burglary occurred around 11:45 p.m. (6:45 p.m. ET) when the perpetrators gained access to a farm building on the Crown Estate land. Police reported that the thieves took a black Izuzu pickup truck and a red quad bike. An investigation is ongoing, but no arrests have been made.
According to British tabloid newspaper The Sun, two masked men scaled a 6-foot fence to enter the grounds, then used the stolen truck to break through a security gate and flee the scene. At the time of the theft, Windsor Castle was not occupied by King Charles or Queen Camilla, as the couple was in Scotland. The Prince and Princess of Wales, who live nearby at Adelaide Cottage, were also not directly impacted by the breach, though they reside within the castle grounds.
This latest incident comes just months after a disturbing security breach at Windsor Castle in December 2021, when a man armed with a crossbow attempted to assassinate Queen Elizabeth II, who was at the residence at the time. Though the late monarch was unharmed, the incident raised serious concerns about the security of royal residences.
Buckingham Palace and Kensington Palace have declined to comment on the current incident, maintaining their usual stance on security matters. The investigation into the October theft remains ongoing.
