Search operations are ongoing to locate two Belarusian sisters who went missing while climbing in the Aladağlar mountains in central Turkey. Valentina and Maria Ivankova, 36-year-old twin sisters, began their ascent of Kızılkaya Peak from Sokullupınar on November 16. They were expected to return to their base camp by November 18, but after losing contact, the Belarusian Consulate alerted the Niğde governor's office on November 19, prompting a search and rescue mission.
The Niğde Gendarmerie Search and Rescue (JAK) and the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) have been focusing their efforts on the Sokullupınar route, which includes Kızılkaya Peak and the surrounding Emli Valley. Around 15 rescue workers are involved in the operation, with additional support from a reconnaissance plane dispatched from Ankara to assist with aerial surveillance.
The search has been complicated by difficult terrain and adverse weather conditions, but authorities are continuing their efforts. The missing climbers are believed to have become disoriented during their climb, and both their families and local authorities are anxiously awaiting news of their whereabouts.
