British Airways Reverses Decision to Cancel Bahrain Route, Announces Three Weekly Flights

British Airways has announced plans to operate three weekly flights between London’s Heathrow Airport and Bahrain International Airport starting next summer. The route is set to expand to daily flights from the winter of 2025, according to Bloomberg Network.

The announcement comes after the airline faced public backlash over its initial decision to cancel the 92-year-old route to Bahrain. This move was reportedly part of a broader strategy to adjust its network due to engine issues with its Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft.

A British Airways spokesperson stated that the decision to resume operations was made after discussions with partners and stakeholders. The airline aims to maintain its long-standing connection to Bahrain while managing its operational challenges.

Former British Defence Minister Liam Fox had criticized the initial plan to cancel the Bahrain and Kuwait routes, describing it as a "completely wrong message" about the UK's diplomatic relations with the Gulf region. While flights to Bahrain are now secure, the airline's decision to suspend flights to Kuwait in March remains under review, as part of earlier plans to address financially unsustainable routes.

British Airways reaffirmed its commitment to Bahrain, saying, “Following discussions with partners and stakeholders, we can confirm we will be operating flights between London Heathrow and Bahrain International at a rate of three times a week from the start of the summer 2025 season. This will rise to daily flights from the winter 2025 season.”

The reversal has been met with relief by travelers and stakeholders who value the historic route as a key link between the UK and the Gulf region. For now, the future of the Kuwait route remains uncertain as discussions continue.
