Israel announced on Monday that Hamas had not yet provided information about the status of 34 hostages the group claimed it was ready to release as part of the first phase of a potential exchange deal.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office issued a statement confirming the lack of clarity. “As yet, Israel has not received any confirmation or comment by Hamas regarding the status of the hostages appearing on the list,” the statement read.
The remarks came after a Hamas official reportedly presented a list of 34 hostages the group proposed to free in the initial stage of a potential agreement. Details regarding the broader terms of the deal or the timeline for the hostages’ release remain uncertain.
Negotiations continue as Israel seeks to secure the safe return of its citizens held by Hamas.
