Heavy Rains Sweep Makkah Region: Authorities Issue Safety Warnings

Jeddah’s vibrant waterfront came alive under a gentle drizzle on Monday, as residents and tourists basked in the scenic charm of the rain-soaked city. In Makkah, serene rainfall graced the Grand Mosque, enriching the spiritual atmosphere for pilgrims and visitors.

However, the weather brought more than just beauty. The National Center of Meteorology (NCM) issued a red alert for Jeddah, warning of heavy rainfall from 6:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Monday. Adverse conditions, including strong winds, reduced visibility, hail, thunderstorms, high waves, and potential flooding, are expected to persist.

Safety Measures in Place

In response, the Crisis and Disaster Management Center in the Makkah region urged caution for motorists and beachgoers, particularly on highways and in flood-prone areas. The center forecasts moderate to heavy thunderstorms, hail, and dust storms across Jeddah, Makkah, and surrounding governorates through Tuesday.

The General Directorate of Civil Defense issued a public safety advisory, emphasizing the importance of avoiding valleys, flood passages, and waterlogged areas. Residents and visitors are encouraged to remain in safe zones and refrain from swimming in potentially hazardous areas.

Authorities have also called on the public to stay updated via official social media channels and to comply with safety guidelines. Unstable weather conditions are expected to impact most regions of the Kingdom until Wednesday.

Areas at High Risk

The Makkah region faces significant risks, with torrential downpours, hail, and dust-stirring winds forecasted for areas including Jeddah, Makkah City, Bahra, Al-Jumum, Rabigh, Kholais, and Al-Kamel. Moderate to heavy rainfall is also expected in Taif, Maysan, Al-Muwayh, Turbah, Al-Khurma, Rania, Al-Laith, and Al-Qunfudah.

Authorities have called for heightened vigilance, urging the public to avoid high-risk areas and adhere to safety protocols to ensure everyone’s well-being during the stormy weather. With conditions expected to continue, residents and visitors are reminded to prioritize safety while enjoying the rare rains that have graced the region.
