Los Angeles, California – Exhausted firefighters in Los Angeles faced new challenges Wednesday night as fires broke out in the Hollywood Hills and Studio City, destroying some homes and prompting evacuations.
In Studio City, a fire ignited at a four-story home on 3656 N. Sunswept Drive at 8:52 p.m., according to the Los Angeles Police Department. Several nearby homes also caught fire shortly after, with flames spreading rapidly through the area’s winding hill roads and dense vegetation.
“Firefighters are in defensive mode, prioritizing the protection of nearby structures and preventing the fire from spreading into the brush,” the Los Angeles Fire Department stated. Aerial footage from KTLA News showed crews battling the blaze with powerful water streams as flames engulfed multiple buildings.
Meanwhile, another fire erupted near Runyon Canyon in the Hollywood Hills, creating massive traffic congestion as residents scrambled to evacuate the densely populated area.
These incidents come amid a devastating series of wildfires that have already wreaked havoc across Los Angeles County. More than 2,000 homes, businesses, and other buildings have been damaged or destroyed, and at least five people have lost their lives.
In Altadena, the Eaton fire, which exploded Tuesday night, left residents with little time to escape. Firefighters discovered five bodies in three separate structures, underscoring the deadly toll of the fast-moving flames.
The Palisades fire has destroyed an estimated 1,000 structures, while the Eaton fire has damaged or destroyed another 1,000, according to the L.A. County Fire Department.
This firestorm is among the most destructive in recent memory, with officials warning that dry conditions and strong winds could exacerbate the situation in the coming days. Emergency services continue to work around the clock to contain the flames and assist displaced residents.
Authorities urge residents in affected areas to follow evacuation orders and stay updated on emergency alerts to ensure their safety.
