The Kuwaiti government has intensified its scrutiny of naturalization files, with nearly 32,000 wives of Kuwaiti citizens, naturalized under Article 8, potentially facing the loss of their Kuwaiti nationality. This comes as part of a broader effort to preserve the integrity of national identity and combat instances of forgery and fraud.

The Supreme Committee for Nationality Investigation, chaired by First Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defense, and Minister of Interior Sheikh Fahad Al-Yousef Saud Al-Sabah, is leading the initiative. During its recent meeting, the committee decided to withdraw Kuwaiti citizenship from 4,246 individuals, further underscoring its commitment to thoroughly reviewing all nationality files.

A government source revealed that the review of Article 8 files—primarily related to naturalized wives—is expected to conclude by the end of January. Weekly audits are being conducted to identify cases involving forgery, duplication, or other violations. The source emphasized the government’s determination to uphold Kuwaiti citizenship as a symbol of loyalty and belonging, rather than a means of personal gain.

“There will be no compromise on the national identity file,” the source stressed. “Efforts will continue to ensure that citizenship remains a document based on loyalty and belonging until all questionable files are cleared.”

The investigation also includes a meticulous audit of all individuals registered under any file where forgery is detected. Authorities are applying strict standards to determine eligibility and ensure compliance with the law.

Citizens have been urged to report any suspected cases of forgery in nationality files, including instances of false registrations. Voluntary disclosure to the competent authorities, the government stated, would help avoid criminal responsibility while aiding the investigation.

This comprehensive review reflects Kuwait’s firm stance on preserving the integrity of its national identity and addressing systemic flaws in the naturalization process.
