Catherine, Princess of Wales, has revealed she is in remission from cancer following treatment at The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust in Chelsea. The announcement came after her poignant visit to the hospital on Tuesday, where she expressed gratitude to the medical staff and connected with current patients undergoing treatment.
In a heartfelt post on social media, the 43-year-old princess shared her “relief to now be in remission” and reflected on the journey of recovery. “As anyone who has experienced a cancer diagnosis will know, it takes time to adjust to a new normal,” she wrote. “I am, however, looking forward to a fulfilling year ahead. There is much to look forward to. Thank you to everyone for your continued support.”
This marked Catherine’s first solo engagement of the year and a significant step in her phased return to public duties after stepping back last year to focus on her health. The visit underscored her deep connection to The Royal Marsden, where she underwent treatment.
During her visit, the princess met with medical teams and spent time with patients in the Medical Day Unit. Sharing lighthearted moments, she joked with one patient about becoming “attached” to her medication port and acknowledged the challenges of chemotherapy, saying, “It’s such a shock.”
Kensington Palace announced that Catherine has now been named joint patron of The Royal Marsden alongside her husband, Prince William, who has been the hospital’s president since 2007. The princess expressed her gratitude, stating, “I wanted to take the opportunity to say thank you to The Royal Marsden for looking after me so well during the past year.”
She added that her new role would allow her to support the hospital’s work in advancing cancer research, treatment, and care. “Through this joint patronage, I hope we might save many more lives and transform the experience of all those impacted by cancer.”
Prince William commended his wife’s resilience in a statement celebrating her 43rd birthday last week, saying, “The strength you’ve shown over the last year has been remarkable.”
The Royal Marsden, established in 1851, is a global leader in cancer diagnosis and treatment. Its chief executive, Cally Palmer, noted the impact of royal patronage, saying it “inspires staff and patients and shines a light on the outstanding work” at the hospital.
As the Princess of Wales looks ahead to a new chapter, her dedication to supporting cancer care and raising awareness is poised to make a lasting impact on the lives of many.
