Massive Fire at Maha Kumbh Mela: 18 Tents Engulfed, No Injuries Reported

A devastating fire broke out on Sunday evening at the Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj, India, following the explosion of multiple gas cylinders in the Sector 19 campsite. Local authorities confirmed that the blaze consumed at least 18 tents before being brought under control.

Firefighters and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams swiftly responded to the emergency, ensuring the evacuation of nearby residents and minimizing potential injuries. Officials confirmed that no casualties or injuries occurred during the incident.

"Two to three cylinders exploded, triggering a massive fire in the Sector 19 camps. The fire has been controlled, and, thankfully, all individuals are safe," said Prayagraj Zone Additional Director General Bhanu Bhaskar during a statement.

Videos shared by eyewitnesses showed flames engulfing the campsite, with residents and volunteers scrambling to safety. Emergency responders worked diligently to contain the fire and prevent its spread to adjacent areas.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed concern over the incident, instructing senior officials to oversee relief operations and ensure the safety of those affected. "Immediate relief measures are underway, and investigations into the cause of the explosions are ongoing," local authorities said.

The official Maha Kumbh 2025 social media platform acknowledged the incident, stating, "We are deeply saddened by the fire at #MahaKumbh. The administration is prioritizing relief efforts. We pray for everyone's safety under Maa Ganga's blessings."

The Maha Kumbh Mela, a spiritual event that draws millions of pilgrims from around the globe, underscores the importance of stringent safety measures. Local officials reiterated their commitment to safety protocols as preparations for the 2025 gathering continue.
