The World Health Organization (WHO) has expressed its concern and regret following the United States' announcement of its intention to withdraw from the global health body.

In a statement, WHO highlighted its crucial role in promoting global health and security, addressing the root causes of diseases, strengthening healthcare systems, and responding to emergencies such as pandemics and natural disasters. The Organization emphasized that its work has directly benefited not only the global population but also the United States itself.

Since WHO's establishment in 1948, the U.S. has been a key partner, significantly contributing to its governance, initiatives, and funding. This collaboration has led to historic achievements, including the eradication of smallpox, near-eradication of polio, and efforts to combat infectious diseases like malaria and tuberculosis. The partnership has been mutually beneficial, with American institutions playing a vital role in research and implementation of health programs worldwide.

Over the past seven years, WHO has implemented extensive reforms aimed at enhancing transparency, cost-efficiency, and effectiveness. These changes, undertaken with the active participation of the U.S. and other Member States, have strengthened the Organization’s capacity to tackle evolving global health challenges.

"We remain committed to working with all Member States, including the United States, to ensure global health security," WHO stated. "We hope the U.S. will reconsider its decision and continue its invaluable partnership with WHO, which has been critical in protecting millions of lives globally."

The decision has raised concerns about its potential impact on global health efforts, particularly in combating current and emerging health threats such as pandemics, vaccine distribution, and disease eradication programs. Global health experts warn that this move could create gaps in funding and cooperation that may hinder collective progress in addressing public health emergencies.

As the world continues to face unprecedented challenges, WHO reiterated its commitment to fostering dialogue and maintaining global partnerships essential for advancing health and well-being worldwide.
