Marco Rubio has officially taken office as the 72nd U.S. Secretary of State after being sworn in by Vice President J.D. Vance. The ceremony, which took place during the first session of the 119th Congress on Monday, followed Rubio’s unanimous 99-0 confirmation vote in the Senate. This marks the first time Vice President Vance has administered the oath of office to a federal official.
"Congratulations to Marco Rubio on his unanimous confirmation as Secretary of State—the first in President Trump's Cabinet. America is back and entering a golden age," the White House announced on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.
Rubio, a veteran senator from Florida, brings extensive experience and a strong commitment to public service to the role. Born and raised in Miami to Cuban immigrant parents, Rubio’s upbringing instilled a deep sense of purpose and resilience. His father worked as a banquet bartender, while his mother held various jobs, including as a factory worker and hotel maid.
As Secretary of State, Rubio is expected to play a pivotal role in shaping U.S. foreign policy during a transformative period. Known for his assertive stance on international relations, Rubio has consistently emphasized the importance of American leadership on the global stage.
