Heavy rains caused significant flooding at the Jardim São Paulo metro station, leaving commuters stranded and causing widespread disruptions across the city’s transit system.
The deluge, which began late last night, overwhelmed the station's drainage system, submerging platforms and corridors under several inches of water. Videos shared on social media show water cascading down stairways and pooling in areas normally bustling with passengers.
Local authorities and emergency crews were dispatched to the station to assess the situation and assist stranded commuters. “Our teams are working around the clock to clear the water and restore services as soon as possible,” said a spokesperson for São Paulo’s metro authority.
The flooding also caused delays and cancellations on other parts of the metro network, compounding the challenges faced by residents during the morning rush hour.
São Paulo has been grappling with heavy rainfall for several days, leading to widespread flooding in low-lying areas and raising concerns about the city’s infrastructure resilience. Meteorologists warn that more rain is expected in the coming days, urging residents to stay informed about weather updates and avoid unnecessary travel.
Authorities have encouraged commuters to use alternative transportation options where possible and advised caution in flooded areas.
