Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has doubled down on his decision to leave Marcus Rashford out of the squad for United’s narrow 1-0 victory over Fulham on Sunday, emphasizing his unwavering demand for total commitment from players.

Rashford has been absent from the squad since mid-December after signaling his desire for a new challenge. Despite United’s struggles for consistency, Amorim made it clear that effort and dedication outweigh all else.

"It's always the same reason," Amorim explained. "The training, the way I see what a footballer should do. Every day, in every detail, you must give your maximum. If that doesn’t happen, I won’t change my stance. Even today, we lacked pace on the bench, but I would rather field [goalkeeper coach Jorge] Vital than someone who doesn’t give their all.”

The 40-year-old, who joked that his tumultuous first two months at Old Trafford have aged him an extra decade, celebrated the win as a much-needed boost.

Lisandro Martinez's late deflected strike secured only Amorim's fourth league win since taking charge in November, leaving the 20-time champions stranded in mid-table.

"It feels like 50, not 40!" Amorim joked to the BBC. "But this win is a great birthday gift. Winning gives us something to build on, even if we still have a long way to go."
