More than 376,000 Palestinians displaced by the conflict between Israel and Hamas have returned to northern Gaza, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) reported on Tuesday.
According to OCHA’s latest humanitarian update, the return follows the withdrawal of Israeli forces from key roads along the Netzarim corridor, which had previously restricted access to the north.
Despite widespread destruction, many Palestinians expressed relief at returning home. However, for many, the homecoming is bittersweet, as families grapple with the loss of loved ones and the devastation caused by the 15-month war.
“This is our homeland, and we have to go back,” said Ola Saleh, a displaced Palestinian woman.
The ongoing ceasefire aims to bring an end to hostilities and facilitate the release of dozens of hostages, along with the exchange of hundreds of Palestinians imprisoned or detained by Israel.
