A US-born 15-year-old girl was shot and killed by her father in Pakistan after he allegedly disapproved of her social media activity, authorities confirmed. The tragic incident occurred in Quetta, where the suspect, Anwar ul-Haq, initially claimed unknown gunmen were responsible before later confessing to the crime.

Local police reported that the girl’s TikTok videos, which her father deemed "objectionable," were a point of contention within the family. Investigators are treating the case as a possible "honour killing," a practice still prevalent in parts of Pakistan.

Police official Babar Baloch revealed that the family had recently returned from the United States after living there for 25 years. Haq, who is also a US citizen, reportedly attempted to prevent his daughter from continuing her online presence, but she persisted, leading to a fatal confrontation.

Authorities have arrested both Haq and his brother-in-law in connection with the murder, charging Haq with homicide. Police are also investigating the contents of the victim’s phone, which remains locked.

Pakistan, a country with conservative social norms, has seen multiple bans on TikTok over "inappropriate content," with the government frequently urging stricter moderation. The case highlights ongoing tensions surrounding digital freedoms and traditional values in the region.

According to the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan, more than 1,000 women are killed annually in so-called "honour killings," often over issues such as social media activity, relationships, or perceived violations of conservative values.

Authorities have not disclosed whether the US embassy has been informed of the case. Meanwhile, the victim’s family has declined to comment.
