A U.S. federal judge has issued an emergency order barring Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) from accessing personal and financial data stored at the Treasury Department, according to court documents released on Saturday.

The ruling, issued by U.S. District Judge Paul A. Engelmayer, prohibits DOGE officials from accessing Treasury Department payment systems and other sensitive financial data. The order specifically restricts access for "all political appointees, special government employees, and government employees detailed from an agency outside the Treasury Department."

The decision marks a significant legal challenge for Musk’s newly established agency, which has faced scrutiny over its push to streamline federal operations. Critics argue that DOGE’s request for Treasury data raised concerns over financial privacy and government overreach.

Further hearings on the matter are expected in the coming days as the Biden administration and legal experts assess the implications of the court’s ruling.
