Russia moots new security system to Bahrain in Gulf

Russia has proposed to Bahrain a new conception of security for the Gulf region, Bahraini Foreign Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed Al Khalifa said yesterday.

“During talks today, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov brought us a new version of a Russian concept and this once again emphasises Russia’s obligations in regard to providing peace and security in our region,” Al Khalifa said during a joint press conference with Lavrov here.

The Bahraini foreign minister also expressed hope that Russia would continue to play a role in bringing the points of views of various countries in the region closer together. 

Russian efforts  hailed

Bahrain is in favour of a political solution to the Syrian crisis and appreciates the efforts of Russia in the settlement of the Syrian crisis, Shaikh Khalid said after talks with Lavrov.

“We need to find a political solution to Syria, which would be supported by all parties and would be based on the Geneva-1 agreement (the conference on Syria),” he said. 

“We appreciate Russia’s many years’ of unfailing commitment to save Syria. We hope that all the interested players will pool their efforts,” the foreign minister said.

“To succeed, it is necessary to combine all efforts in the fight against terrorism, thus we would be able to solve the problem faced by all. Bahrain and Russia cooperate and agree on many issues. We hope that this will continue,” the minister said.”-- Sputnik News
