Hezbollah has denied any involvement in the firing of rockets at Israel on Saturday, following Israeli airstrikes on southern Lebanon in response to the attack. The Iran-backed militant group dismissed Israel’s claims as baseless and accused the country of using the incident as a justification for further aggression.
"Hezbollah denies any involvement in the rocket fire from southern Lebanon into the occupied Palestinian territories (Israel)," the group said in an official statement. It further described Israel’s accusations as "pretexts for its continued attacks on Lebanon."
The Israeli military reported that three rockets were launched from Lebanese territory into northern Israel, prompting retaliatory airstrikes. According to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), the rockets landed in open areas without causing casualties or significant damage. In response, the IDF said it targeted "terror infrastructure" in southern Lebanon.
Lebanese security sources indicated that the attack was likely carried out by Palestinian factions operating in Lebanon, rather than Hezbollah. The launch of rockets from Lebanon into Israel has become a sporadic occurrence, often linked to broader regional tensions involving Israel, Hezbollah, and Palestinian militant groups.
Tensions in the region remain high, with cross-border hostilities increasing in recent months. Hezbollah, which maintains a strong presence in southern Lebanon, has repeatedly warned Israel against further military actions in the country, vowing to respond if directly attacked.
The incident adds to growing concerns of an escalation along the Israel-Lebanon border, a region that has witnessed periodic flare-ups since the 2006 war between Israel and Hezbollah. International observers have urged restraint to prevent further deterioration of the situation.
