Israel launched deadly strikes on Lebanon on Saturday in retaliation for rocket fire from across the border. The attacks, which targeted several areas in southern Lebanon, came after the Israeli army reported intercepting three rockets fired from Lebanon into northern Israel, triggering air raid sirens for the first time since November.
Hezbollah, the Iran-backed militant group, denied responsibility for the rockets, accusing Israel of using the incident as a pretext for continued aggression against Lebanon. Despite this, Israel's military held the Lebanese government accountable for all hostile actions originating from its territory.
The strikes resulted in two fatalities in the southern town of Touline, including a young girl, according to Lebanon's National News Agency (NNA). The attack marked the largest escalation since the ceasefire on November 27, further escalating tensions in the region.
Israeli defense officials warned of a severe response to any cross-border fire, emphasizing that the Lebanese government would be held responsible for attacks emanating from its territory. In response to the growing conflict, the Israeli military has been instructed to act decisively to prevent further escalation.
