Fire Breaks Out at Yas Waterworld Abu Dhabi
A large fire broke out at Yas Waterworld Abu Dhabi on Friday afternoon, sending thick black smoke billowing over the surrounding areas of Ferrari World, Yas Marina Circuit, and in the direction of the airport around 2 PM.
Authorities responded swiftly to the incident. Abu Dhabi Police confirmed on social media that emergency teams were dispatched to Yas Island to contain the blaze. As a precautionary measure, police sealed off routes in and out of the theme park, redirecting traffic on Yas Bay to facilitate the movement of emergency responders.
Initial reports indicate that the fire erupted in an under-construction section of the popular water attraction. Yas Waterworld, which has been operational since 2013, is undergoing a major expansion. In December, Miral, the theme park’s developer, announced a 16,900-square-metre extension featuring 18 new rides and attractions. The expansion will also include a 3.3-kilometer network of slides, the UAE’s tallest waterslide, and the GCC’s first waterpark ride integrated within a waterslide complex.
Authorities have yet to provide further details on the cause of the fire or any potential injuries. Emergency teams remain on-site to assess the damage and ensure safety in the area.
