U.S. President Donald Trump has issued a stark warning to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, cautioning that Ukraine could face “big, big problems” if it withdraws from a mineral agreement with the United States.
Speaking to reporters on Sunday, Trump accused Zelenskyy of attempting to renege on a deal that grants the U.S. access to Ukraine’s rare earth minerals.
“He’s trying to back out of the rare earth deal,” Trump said. “If he does that, he’s got some problems. Big, big problems. We made a deal on rare earth, and now he’s saying, ‘Well, you know, I want to renegotiate the deal.’”
The president’s comments came just hours after he criticized Russian President Vladimir Putin over remarks regarding Ukraine’s leadership.
Trump on NATO and Russia’s Role in the War
While traveling from Florida to Washington, Trump also weighed in on Ukraine’s NATO aspirations, asserting that Zelenskyy’s membership bid was never a realistic possibility.
“He wants to be a member of NATO. He was never going to be a member of NATO. He understands that,” Trump stated.
Despite claiming that progress was being made in resolving the conflict, Trump acknowledged the significant divide between Zelenskyy and Putin, suggesting that negotiations may not yield the swift resolution he had previously anticipated.
The latest remarks add to ongoing tensions between Washington, Kyiv, and Moscow, as diplomatic efforts to end the war remain uncertain.
