At least 1,042 people have been killed in Gaza since Israel resumed large-scale airstrikes and ground assaults on March 18, the Palestinian territory’s health ministry reported on Tuesday.

According to the ministry, 41 people lost their lives in the past 24 hours alone, bringing the overall death toll to 50,399 since the war erupted on October 7, 2023.

The latest escalation follows a ceasefire that lasted nearly two months before Israel relaunched its military campaign. While the health ministry’s figures do not differentiate between civilians and combatants, officials state that more than half of the casualties are women and children.

The situation on the ground remains dire as heavy bombardments and ongoing clashes continue to claim lives across the enclave.
