A seven-year-old girl was brutally killed in northwest Delhi’s Swaroop Nagar, allegedly by her father’s friend in a violent rage over a TV remote, police officials said on Tuesday.

The accused, 35-year-old Ranjeet Singh, was arrested from the Narela Industrial Area after investigators tracked his mobile location.

Deadly Outburst Over Television

According to police reports, Singh, a labourer from Bihar, had been drinking with the child’s father at his residence in Bhatha Road on Sunday. After briefly stepping out, he returned to watch television while the girl played on her father’s phone. When she unintentionally disrupted him with the remote, Singh became enraged and struck her, causing her to collapse, bleeding from the mouth.

Fearing she might regain consciousness and alert others, Singh allegedly picked up a metallic rod and struck her on the neck, a fatal blow that police believe caused her death. He then wrapped her body in clothes, hid it under the bed, and fled with the father’s phone.

Crime Scene and Arrest

Authorities were alerted when a crowd gathered outside the house in J-Block, Khadda Colony. Upon entering, police discovered the girl motionless on the ground with visible injuries. While no initial signs of sexual assault were detected, her body was sent for post-mortem examination to determine further details.

Investigators traced Singh’s mobile location to Narela, leading to his swift arrest. During interrogation, he confessed to the crime, police said. Further investigations are underway.
