Kuwait has deported an Indian national and imposed a lifetime ban on his return after he attempted to end his life by jumping off the Sheikh Jaber Al Ahmad Causeway, local media reported.

The man was intercepted by coastguard officials during a routine morning patrol, who noticed him in distress on the massive sea bridge. They swiftly intervened and prevented the suicide attempt, later handing him over to security authorities.

According to reports, the individual confessed during questioning that he was going through severe personal hardship and saw no other option but to take his own life.

The Ministry of Interior subsequently ordered his deportation and issued a permanent re-entry ban.

The Sheikh Jaber Causeway, inaugurated in 2019, is among the world’s longest sea bridges, connecting northern and southern Kuwait. Due to a noticeable rise in suicide attempts at the location, authorities have increased surveillance and patrols in recent months.

This incident comes amid growing concerns over mental health and wellbeing among expatriate communities in the Gulf state.
