China announced Friday it will impose an additional 34% tariff on all US imports starting April 10, in direct retaliation to fresh tariffs introduced by Washington on Chinese products.
In a parallel move, Beijing’s commerce ministry revealed new export restrictions on seven rare earth elements critical to various high-tech industries. Among them are gadolinium, widely used in medical imaging (MRIs), and yttrium, a key component in consumer electronics.
The tit-for-tat measures mark a sharp escalation in the ongoing trade tensions between the two global economic powers.
