President Trump May Abandon Russia-Ukraine Peace Efforts Within Days, Says Secretary of State Rubio

U.S. President Donald Trump is prepared to withdraw from efforts to broker a peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine within days unless clear progress is seen, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced on Friday.

“We’re not going to drag this out for weeks or months,” Rubio stated during a press conference in Paris following discussions with European and Ukrainian leaders. “We need to assess, and I mean within a matter of days, whether a deal is realistically achievable in the coming weeks. If so, we’re fully committed — if not, we have other pressing priorities.”

Rubio emphasized that President Trump remains interested in securing a peace deal but is ready to shift focus if negotiations fail to show swift and meaningful signs of advancement.

Trump, who pledged during his presidential campaign to resolve the conflict within his first 24 hours in office, later adjusted his timeline to aim for a deal by April or May, acknowledging the complexities involved.

Rubio’s remarks reflect growing frustration within the administration over stalled diplomatic efforts, as global tensions and unresolved geopolitical challenges continue to mount.
