In a significant move following the recent Pahalgam terror attack, the Government of India on Thursday announced the immediate suspension of all visa categories for Pakistani nationals and directed them to leave the country by April 27.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), in a formal statement, said, "In continuation of the decisions made by the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) in the wake of the Pahalgam terror attack, the Government of India has decided to suspend visa services to Pakistani nationals with immediate effect."
While most visa categories will be revoked by April 27, medical visas will remain valid for an additional two days and will be cancelled on April 29.
The MEA further advised Indian nationals currently residing in Pakistan to return to India at the earliest in view of the evolving security situation.
"All Pakistani nationals currently in India must leave before the expiry of their visas, as now amended," the statement read.
This development marks a sharp escalation in diplomatic tensions between the two nations, with security concerns taking center stage in the government's latest measures.
