No plastic found in Mozzarella cheese
Oman's Ministry of Commerce and Industry denied allegations that slices of Mozzarella cheese contained plastic.
Acting Directorate-General for Standardisation and Measurements Sami bin Salim al Sahib said that experts have tested samples of different brands of cheese including ‘Mozzarella’ in accordance with the Gulf standard specifications No. 833 to see whether or not they were up to the mark.
According to a report in Arabic daily Al-Shabiba, Sami said that test results showed that cheese products meet the specifications and were safe to consume.
The statement came out in response to a video which was being circulated on the social media showing how a slice of ‘Mozzarella’ cheese failed to melt and turned black when it was exposed to flames suggesting that it contained plastic.
The ministry said the slice of cheese in the video did not melt because of exposure to direct excessive heating which is not used in normal conditions when the cheese is cooked or heated.
