Europe launches 2 Earth Observation Satellites into orbit

Kourou, France: Europe puts into orbit two Earth observation satellites designed to better detect extreme weather events linked to climate change.
The European Space Agency successfully launched the Sentinel-3C and Flex spacecraft using a Vega-C rocket from the Kourou space center in French Guiana.
The first spacecraft, the Flex satellite, will monitor plant fluorescence the red light emitted during photosynthesis to establish and quantify the link between plant stress and heatwaves.
Meanwhile, the second spacecraft, Sentinel-3C from the European Union's Copernicus program, will measure marine environments, temperature, wave height, ocean currents, and land use to optimize yields and prevent food crises.
Both satellites were successfully placed into a sun-synchronous orbit nearly two hours after liftoff. Simonetta Cheli, Director of Earth Observation Programmes at the European Space Agency, emphasized that such missions are essential in helping address ongoing climate change.
