Indian barber jailed for groping teenager in Dubai

An Indian barber has been sentenced to three months in jail for molesting a 17-year-old student in the lift of her apartment building. The Court of First Instance also ordered that the defendant to be deported after completing the jail term.

The accused was found guilty of groping the student in the building in Al Qusais on November 11 last year. The student said in the investigation that the man groped her as she did not respond to his attempt to have a conversation with her.

Even though she defended herself by pushing him away, he tried again to touch her. The victim's mother recounted in the prosecution investigation that her daughter came back from school crying.

When she learnt about what happened, the mother asked the watchman to let her have a look at the recordings of the surveillance camera fixed at the entrance of the building. She saw the defendant entering the lift behind her daughter. Later she lodged a complaint at Al Qusais police station. The man admitted to the investigators that he did not stay or work in that building.

He also admitted he did not know or visit anybody at the building and confessed to the crime. The verdict may be appealed.
