Man on trial for carrying fake dinars

A Singaporean man on visit visa was arrested in Dubai with 200,000 counterfeit Kuwaiti dinars in his possession, a court heard.

The 38-year-old, identified as C.S., admitted during the investigation that he brought the fake bills from Bangkok and was to give them to a man here. He claimed he was to get paid $10,000 for the job. C.S. has been charged in the Court of First Instance with possession of counterfeit notes for circulation.A police lieutenant said that on November 30 last year, they were tipped off by a reliable source that a man possessed notes believed to be fake."We learnt about his whereabouts which was near a shopping centre in Al Qusais. We apprehended him and seized fake 200,000 Kuwaiti dinars from him."

C.S. was referred later on that day to the Economic Crime Department. During the questioning, he claimed he brought the notes from Bangkok.According to the Crime Lab report, the 100 bills (2,000 dinars each), seized from C.S., are all counterfeit in a way that can go unnoticed by unaware people.The hearing has been adjourned to February 28.
