128 capsules of heroin hidden in stomach
Ras Al Khaimah : Police successfully thwarted attempts by a man to smuggle in heroin worth half-a-million dirhams.
Colonel Ibrahim Ali, Director, Drug Enforcement Administration, Ras Al Khaimah Police, said, the team, led by Maj. Ali Al-Saadi, Head of Control Operations, acted on a tip-off and monitored the movements of the passenger no sooner than he arrived at the airport.
The passenger seemed confused and afraid and when taken for questioning he confessed voluntarily that he had capsules in his stomach.
He was immediately taken to hospital, where 128 capsules of heroin, weighing 1.36 kilograms and worth half-a-million dirhams was removed from his body.
The suspect admitted that he had received the substance from two people from his country.
Maj. Ali Al-Saadi said smuggling capsules in the abdomen can also result in the death of the person.
This is one of the innovative ways used by smugglers, but they cannot escape the alert and efficient officials, he added.
