French Peeping Tom convicted of filming in women's toilet
A university technician in northern France who hid mobile phones in a women's toilet and spent almost two years collecting footage on his computer was given a 10-month suspended sentence on Monday.
The 35-year-old technician at the University Institute of Technology in Brittany was arrested in November after a cleaner found the phones taped under the lid of the toilet's water tank and in a ceiling panel.
The man gathered 90 gigabytes of video, which he had been painstakingly archiving and organising on his computer since early 2014.
Around 30 victims, including teachers, secretaries and students, attended the trial over the past month.
Convicted of invasion of privacy and abuse of trust, the man was banned from visiting the university campus, ordered to seek psychological help and pay compensation to his victims of a total of some 7,900 euros ($8,800).
