Sudden deviations kill 105 on roads

Sharjah : Sudden deviations on roads resulted in 105 fatal accidents in Sharjah in 2015, while a total of 5,852 traffic violations were recorded by patrols during the year.

Major Abdul Rahman Mohammed Khatir, Director, Traffic Awareness Section, Sharjah Police, said sudden deviations on roads is dangerous, especially when vehicles are moving at high speeds. This has resulted in several deaths and severe injuries, he added.

Changing lanes without applying indicators and overtaking from the right side are violations of rules.

So also, stopping in the middle of the road, overtaking on the yellow lines, along curves or speeding on wet roads are all dangerous practices, which can lead to accidents.

Fines

Major Khatir said motorists who overtake incorrectly face a fine of Dh200 and three traffic points.

Overtaking from the right side calls for Dh200 fine and four points, while overtaking from undesignated places will incur a fine of Dh600 and six black points.

Driving on lanes dedicated to heavy vehicles calls for Dh600 fine and six black points.
