Three bodies, likely of migrants, found drowned in Macedonia
Skopje : Two men and one woman, believed to be migrants who tried to enter Macedonia illegally, werefound drowned near the Greek border on Monday after days of heavy rain, an official said.
"Three bodies were found, thought to be of migrants, who drowned in the Suva Reka river" near the southern border town of Gevgelija, a spokeswoman for the Macedonian interior ministry, Natalija Spirova Kordic, told AFP.
"The case is under investigation, but so far it looks like they drowned while trying to enterMacedonia illegally."
More than 14,000 people are stuck on the Greek side of the border in an overcrowded camp after the main migrant route to western Europe through the Balkans was effectively shut down last week.
News of the deaths comes after several days of heavy rain in the border area which has swelled rivers and led officials to instigate anti-flooding measures.
