Doctor, nurse refuse to see emergency cases in Saudi hospital
Hail: A resident female doctor and a Saudi nurse working in the emergency department at Hail General Hospital have refused to receive a number of patients in their neighborhoods because their situations aren’t classified as emergency cases.
The patients filed a complaint with the attending doctor about the issue who tried to deal with the cases, but the doctor and nurse's refusal to receive the patients created many problems and generated widespread complaints.
Mohammad Al-Shammari said he visited the emergency department with his sick daughter, adding that the doctor at the emergency ward refused to receive her or examine her.
According to Al-Shammari, the doctor said that if his daughter did not have high blood pressure or a fever, she should go to the clinic the next morning.
He pointed out that he came to the facility with a number of other patients who were also rejected by the two staff members. He noted that all of them subsequently filed complaints to the attending director who tried to intervene and complete the necessary procedures at the time, yet to no avail.
He added that the attending director wrote a letter based on the patient's complaint to the hospital's administration and recommended that the relevant authorities hold to account those who fail to serve patient's needs properly.
