‘Uncle Moaidh’ to sue makers of video game

Riyadh : “Uncle Moaidh,” the man who achieved notoriety on social media for whipping his children and nephews, plans to sue the makers of a video game based on the incident.

Abdulrahman Al-Thieyabi Al-Otaibi (the real name of the man) said the makers of “Play the whipping game of Uncle Moiadh,” did not receive permission from him or his family and was defamatory, a publication reported Wednesday.

Al-Otaibi said he was “saddened” by the fact that he was not consulted. He would have preferred if concerns had been raised about the harm caused by children filming incidents in their homes.

He said many people contacted him, including lawyers, to advise him on his rights. “Yes I will file a lawsuit against those who exploited me commercially,” he was quoted as saying.

Al-Otaibi said that if he knew there was a camera filming him beating his two children and two nephews he would have destroyed it immediately. He said he has confiscated his children’s smartphones as punishment for their “bad” behavior.

Al-Otaibi said he was not in favor of violence against children and that there was a difference between abuse and disciplining children, according to the report.

The two-minute videoclip posted on YouTube on March 22 showed the four youngsters playing with a ball inside their house. It is then that Al-Otaibi came in and whipped them. There has been dozens of videos posted on YouTube mocking Al-Otaibi’s actions.
