Girl injured after hair caught in carnival ride

Nebraska: An 11-year-old Nebraska girl remains hospitalized under sedation after a witness says her hair got caught in a spinning Cinco de Mayo carnival ride and she was scalped and suffered a head injury.

Police say the girl, named Lulu, was taken to Nebraska Medicine after the accident Saturday afternoon although her injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

A witness says that the girl's hair got caught in a spinning ride called King's Crown.  Police say the girl was not thrown from the ride.  Other children in her compartment began screaming for help, and the ride was stopped.

Her mother, Virginia Cooksey wrote on Facebook:  "I would like to thank everyone for the amount of love and support everyone has shown my family and I. Lulu is a amazing little girl. She will be overwhelmed with joy when she wakes up to know how much everyone is caring about her. Please keep praying for my baby girl."

The ride was shut down Saturday, but other rides at the carnival continued to operate.

The family has started a GoFundMe account to pay for her medical condition.
