‘Mobile phone spying’ key cause of Saudi divorces
Riyadh : A top scholar has warned wives against searching through their husbands’ mobiles, noting that such actions constitute 20 percent of divorce cases.
Sheikh Abdullah Al-Motlaq, member of the Council of Senior Scholars and adviser to the Royal Court, said the act of searching through a husband’s phone is considered spying and is not permissible, as is the case of husbands searching through their wives’ phones.
This has led to many divorces due to the fact that the husband’s phone may contain some things that do not please the wife, he explained.
“Spying is haram (not permissible) and can cause problems, and is one of the major sins that leads to no good.”
Speaking on Al-Iftaa TV program, he said husbands and wives should stay away from suspicion and spying on each other as such actions only cause strife. He said they should trust each other in order to stabilize their lives.
He also called on wives to avoid wasteful expenditures and judiciously spend their husbands’ hard-earned money. He advised them not to burden their husbands with what they cannot afford.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Justice is expected to launch the alimony fund, which would be used to help divorced women and their children during litigation or in the case couples can’t support themselves and their children.
