Makkah 108 years ago… Picture shows two minarets and Kaaba

Makkah: A Saudi newspaper on Sunday published an old picture of Makkah dating back to 108 years, when the Gulf Kingdom had no oil.

The picture in ‘Ajel’ Arabic language daily showed parts of Masjid Al Haram (Grand Mosque) including two minarets and Kaaba, Islam’s holiest shrine.

The paper said the picture was captured in 1908 and was released this week by the culture department of King Abdul Aziz, the founder of Saudi Arabia.

Masjid Al Haram is the world’s largest mosque, where millions of Muslims converge every year for pilgrimage.
