Five Malaysians in Singapore confirmed with Zika

Singapore : Five Malaysians staying in Singapore are confirmed to be infected with the Zika virus, Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam said.

He said the five cases were based on information provided by Singapore’s Ministry of Health, which has reported 115 confirmed Zika cases for the period between Aug 27 and 31.

The five Malaysians are residing or working in Singapore.

On Thursday, Dr Subramaniam confirmed Malaysia’s first Zika infection after a 58-year-old woman from Bandar Botanic in Klang tested positive for the virus following a urine test at the Sungai Buloh hospital on Wednesday.

The woman had visited her daughter in Singapore from Aug 19 to 21 and began showing symptoms on Aug 28.

The woman’s blood test result is still pending. Her family members living in the same house as her are also being closely monitored, though they have not shown any symptoms.
