Two Omani students drown in Qatar University swimming pool
Muscut : An Omani teenager studying abroad in Qatar died after drowning in a swimming pool at the university where she studied.
Reem Said Al Kalbani, from Oman, was found drowning in the swimming pool attached to Qatar University’s female dorms by her Qatari friend Noura Al Hidous, who attempted to save her by jumping in the pool, but ended up meeting the same fate.
The bodies of the two students aged 19 and 18, were recovered by Qatari authorities for the autopsy and an investigation is underway.
Dr. Hassan Al Dirham, President of Qatar University, mourned the losses of his students on his official twitter account saying, "We mourn the surprising deaths of two of our students, Noura Al Hidous and Reem Al Kalbani. I ask God to have mercy on them and forgive them and inspire patience and fortitude to their parents."
The university is following up with the investigations but has yet to make a statement about the incident.
