TELEFONO WINS RICHEST RACE

Outsider Telefono owned by Karrar Abdulhadi Ali Al Baqqali, trained by Taleb Ali and ridden by Stephane Ladjadj won the seventh and richest race yesterday for the Shaikh Faisal bin Rashid Al Khalifa Cup for imported 2nd, 3rd, 4th and maiden classes of three years and upwards over 2,000 metres and worth BD12,000 in the 24th race meeting of the season at the Rashid Equestrian and Horse Racing Club in Sakhir.

Telefono was a length ahead of third favourite Mr Caine owned by owned by Fateel Brothers Syndicate, trained by Basem Mahdi and ridden by Abdulla Faisal.
Third place a further head behind went to pre-race favourite Pleasure Bent owned by Mohammed A Rahman, trained by Fawzi Nass and ridden by Alberto Sanna, who was half a length ahead of the second favourite Empiricist owned by Ghalya Raed Ali Abdulla, trained by Talal Al Alawi and ridden by Brett Doyle, in fourth.
The other six feature races were three for the Bank of Bahrain and Kuwait Cup, the Rashid Equestrian and Horse Racing Club Cup, Horse and Carriage Cup and Shaikh Faisal bin Rashid Al Khalifa Cup.
The races were held in the presence of the President of the Bahrain Royal Equestrian and Endurance Federation (BREEF) Shaikh Faisal bin Rashid bin Isa Al Khalifa and among the attendees were Bank of Bahrain and Kuwait Chief Executive Abdul Karim Ahmed Bucheery who presented trophies to the winning jockeys, trainers and owners.
