ELEVEN ASIANS CAUGHT FOR SMUGGLING DRUGS

Eleven Asian nationals landed in police net after attempting to smuggle about 1 kg of cocaine into Bahrain, it has emerged.

Three of the suspects reportedly stashed the drugs inside their slippers and then re-tailored them to mislead customs inspectors.

They landed in Bahrain via the Bahrain International Airport,

and were caught when a smuggler’s nervousness attracted the suspicion of customs officials, prompting them to stop him for manual inspection.

A pair of slippers was found in his possession. Up on examination, the tailoring was found to be dissimilar. Therefore, police tore it open and found unlawful drugs stashed in them.

When he was questioned, he revealed he was supposed to hand them to another Asian national who was awaiting him at the airport.

The latter was then captured in a sting operation. Two similar attempts were later made to smuggle cocaine, but both were thwarted by the custom officers.

Three accused were charged on grounds of smuggling drugs, while their co-suspects were arrested for trying to receive the drugs and distribute in Bahrain.
