UAE to tow Antarctic icebergs for drinking water

A local firm has launched an official website on United Arab Emirates (UAE)-Iceberg Project to highlight the upcoming stages and benefits in environment and economy.

The National Advisor Bureau Limited put forward the project of towing icebergs from Antarctica to the UAE coasts during the first quarter of 2020 “to leverage them as new sources of water in the region,” said WAM, estimating the cost of the project at $50-60 million.

According to National Advisor Bureau Limited, the launch has been timed to coincide with the Year of Zayed in 2018, as the project is designed to support global responses to drought worldwide and other water-related humanitarian projects.

“We have been working hard on the project for the past year and are moving to the next stages,” said Abdullah Mohammed Sulaiman Al Shehi, National Advisor Bureau managing director.
